Used as a high temperature oxidizer in some red strobe compositions.

Although they may not be interchangeable with strontium sulfate, other sulfates used to color strobe compositions include barium sulfate for green, potassium sulfate for white, sodium sulfate for yellow and calcium sulfate for a reddish-orange.
